July 2026 Newsletter

I hope you're enjoying all the sunshine, summer adventures, and opportunities to make special memories with the children in your life. While the temperatures outside continue to climb, I've been keeping busy indoors with exciting book updates, new projects, and some fun opportunities for aspiring children's book authors!

Exciting News: How NOT to Destroy a Lab is Getting Closer!

I'm thrilled to share that my newest children's picture book, How NOT to Destroy a Lab, is making wonderful progress!

I've received the first sketches and preliminary illustrations, and it's been so exciting watching this story come to life one page at a time. Every illustration adds more personality, humor, and scientific fun than I imagined.

If everything continues on schedule, I'm hoping to finalize the book in August! I can't wait to share more sneak peeks with all of you in the coming weeks.

This story celebrates curiosity, experimentation, and learning through science… while reminding young readers that sometimes the best discoveries come from a few unexpected mishaps along the way!

If you have purchased or read any of my books, it would mean the world to me if you could take a few moments to leave a rating or review on Amazon. Your support helps these stories reach more readers and share messages of kindness, courage, and confidence with even more children.

May 2026 Newsletter

💐🌻🪻🌷💗 Happy Mother’s Day! 💗🌷🪻🌻💐

Welcome to the May 2026 newsletter and communication update for Catherine Clark Felts' children's books!

Happy Mother’s Day to all who guide, support, and love—stepmoms, foster moms, expectant moms, pet moms, those longing to be moms, rainbow moms, grandmothers, chosen moms, and everyone who has stepped in to nurture and care like a mom.

As we head into summer, I’ll be focusing on preparing my fifth book, How Not to Destroy a Lab, for publication, developing new workshops and opportunities for aspiring authors to collaborate and craft meaningful children’s stories, and finding new ways to connect with my community and inspire children around the world.

“Thank you” hardly feels big enough for “Papa” Rick Harris, Heather Felty of Inner Peace Press, and the wonderful attendees who joined my Writing Children’s Book Workshop: From Idea to Bookshelf.

I truly loved every moment of collaborating, sharing ideas, and connecting with such inspiring guests and participants. Over the three days, we explored so much together, beginning with the core components of a children’s book and shaping a compelling story on Day 1, diving into how to thoughtfully critique manuscripts and find the right editor on Day 2, and wrapping up on Day 3 by demystifying the different publishing paths available to aspiring authors.

I walked away just as inspired as I hope you did, and I’m already excited to bring this workshop back in the fall, with new special guests, expanded opportunities for manuscript reviews, and even more chances for meaningful collaboration.

🌲 New Book Release — Rocky to the Rescue!

It’s hard to believe it has been a year since I posted a social media poll asking for input on a children’s book concept centered around a character named Rocky Knickerbocker. I’m thrilled to announce that my fourth bookRocky to the Rescue, has now been released!

Rocky Knickerbocker isn’t your typical carpenter’s apprentice. Rather than waiting for problems to come to him, he heads into the woods to help creatures in need. When Rocky discovers Mama Squirrel struggling to reach her babies, he jumps in to help, but multiple wardrobe malfunctions and teasing from his peers force him to choose between embarrassment and confidence.

Can Rocky stay true to himself, ignore the teasing, and help Mama Squirrel in time?

Full of humor, heart, and heroism, Rocky’s tale celebrates kindness and the courage to wear what works… even when it isn’t what everyone expects. Order a copy today on my website!

Little Thoughts

Have you ever thought... should I give up?  It is worth it?  Can I really accomplish what I've set out to do?  Does it matter to anyone else if I succeed or fail?  When these doubts start to creep into my consciousness, I struggle to push back at times.

I know that those who succeed are those who don't give up.  But I also know that there are those who never give up and are so rigid in their vision and goals, they never succeed and ultimately fail to reach their goal.  I've put thought into why.  Why do some succeed and some fail.  I think it's a balancing act.  To succeed, you must not give up, you must continue trying.  But every no or failure along the way is simply an opportunity to learn. And that is the key difference between success and failure.  LEARNING.  GROWING. CHANGING.  When necessary.

I've started this published author journey nearly one year ago.  The true journey began years ago, as a teenager with grandiose visions of becoming a world-renowned short story, fiction, or sci-fi author.  Back then I dabbled in creative writing and fell in love.  Life took some turns, different decisions were made, and I lost track of my love for writing.  Fast forward to the last two years.  I started writing again for myself, and immediately knew I wanted to take a different approach: become a children's book author; have a positive impact on the lives of children and their families; instill courage, hope, love while providing support and encouragement.  And yet I wonder at times if I should give up.  Who am I reaching? Who am I helping?  Have I been successful?

By some measures, I've been extremely successful: I've published three children's books with Inner Peace Press as my publisher, received two children's books awards, all three of my published works were accepted into the Ella's Way organization, my books have been included in donation packages to Global Academy in Spartanburg, SC, libraries and schools in Los Angeles, CA, and an elementary school in AZ. I've attended events at ChildSavers, Toddler's Fair in Petersburg, VA, ChesterFest in Chester, VA, Spring Fling at Trinity UMC, Meet the Author Event at a Chesterfield County Library. I had the honor of reading Tina's Mysterious Case of Dance-itis at the Trinity UMC Talent Show and to children at Westminster Canterbury Child Development Center. I'm working on my fourth book, which will be out in the coming months.

But I've also felt like a failure.  Getting rained out and selling only two books at ChesterFest.  Losing my connections and events planned for this fall when we moved to Yorktown.  An ever growing stockpile of books in my closet and struggling to schedule future events where I can sell my inventory. Questioning if I really am cut out for the marketing and self-promotion side of being an author.  Having yet to receive an email, a post, a note, anything from a family or child that says "you made a difference".

And yet... I still go back to my original thoughts.  Should I give up?  Is it worth it?

Yes, it's worth it.  If I can positively impact one child, one kiddo who cries at night missing their beloved dog, who would give anything to get one last moment with their grandpa, who shies away from being their true selves around others.  If I can help them grieve, process, and shine again, it's worth it.  So I won't give up.  I'll learn from the no's, the failures, the unreturned phone calls, the ignored emails, the silent social media responses.  I'll try to learn, grow, and change... to be successful.
